Untitled (Felicidades), circa 1953
Signed and inscribed Felicidades/Carrenos (ur)
Gouache on paper
6 1/2 x 15 5/8 inches (16.5 x 40 cm)
It is possible that this work was a study for the 1953 painting Tres Formas Negras, with its inscription added later to be presented as a gift.
(Framed: 10 3/4 x 18 3/4 x 1 1/8 inches)
Sheet is hinged to backing at upper left and upper right corners. Pinholes at all four corners. Scattered small losses exposing underpaint, most apparent at left and right edges, within orange pigment. A small paper loss to upper left corner. Two vertical creases running from upper to lower edges at left, which do not appear to crack the paint surface. A scattered chalky white haze on surface akin to blooming varnish, most apparent in darkest pigments. Scattered minor paint loss within signature. Graphite lines visible within inscription/signature.
