This pastel is a study for one of the panels of Vuillard's Place Vintimille series. Two of the panels are now in the collection of New York's Guggenheim Museum.
Antoine Salomon has confirmed the authenticity of this drawing on the back of a photograph, dated November 8, 1989.

1/2 cm tear at bottom center edge; creases in the lower right corner; some minor wear along the bottom and top edges.
